Special Pick Ups

The City offers a shrub pick up program. Shrub pick up day is on the last Monday in April. The shrubs must be bundled and securely tied with string or rope, together forming an easily handled package not exceeding 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter or 60 lbs in weight. Each bundle needs to have an “orange” yard waste tag attached to it. The yard waste tags are available at City Hall for $2.50 each.

The City also offers a chipping program. The tree-trimming program is in the fall. The limbs must be no larger than 3" in diameter, minimum of 4 feet and maximum of 15 feet in length. No bush, hedges, shrubs – only tree limbs please. Limbs must be lose and laid out in piles-- no piles. Only tree limbs; no portions or whole tree removals.

Absolutely no evergreens are accepted by the City Maintenance Department for shrub or chipping. Thank you for your cooperation with these two special pick-ups.

After Christmas, the City will pick up your Christmas tree provided a “red” Christmas tree tag is attached. The tag can be purchased at City Hall for a cost of $1.00. This is only for tree pickups; no wreaths or garland will be accepted.

Snow and Ice Season

The City would appreciate your cooperation in removing your vehicles from the streets when there is a snowstorm so that the City can provide clearance of snow or ice and maintenance of the city’s road system.

The City’s initial effort will be go get all routes open to one-lane traffic as soon as possible. After one lane travel is possible on major routes, subsequent snow removal will be carried on during normal working hours. The snow removal equipment will not normally be in operation between the hours of midnight and 4:00 a.m. The snow removal equipment may be called off the road if snow and blowing reduces visibility to hazardous working conditions. It is not the policy of the City to provide a “dry” pavement conditions. There is no time limit after a snowstorm in which any of the above sequence of clearance shall take place. The City tries to have all main roads open by 6 am.

Shoveling, throwing or blowing snow into the streets is not permissible and violators will be sited.

The City’s snow removal policy is on file at City Hall. Thank you for your cooperation.
