If you would like to use the Dubuque County Library's free ebooks when they are closed, you can!  While you are practicing social distancing, the DCLD staff have set up a virtual library card to meet the needs of users and provide library services online.  

To get your virtual card, fill out the form found at and they will send you a library card number via email in two business days.  You can also send an email to to request an email attachment form. Once your account is set up, you will have access to over 50,000 ebooks and audiobooks and dozens of online magazines through Bridges/Overdrive.  All these are available at no charge with your virtual library card.  

The virtual card expires on June 1 and when the library does reopen, you can visit any of the 5 branches to get a full-use card by providing a photo ID and proof of address.  Please email with any questions or if you have a current library card but do not know your pin.  

Please note:  DCLD's virtual library cards are only available to people who live with in the areas of Dubuque County; the cities of Asbury, Epworth, Farley, Holy Cross and Peosta or the Library Agency communities of Balltown, Centralia, Luxemburg and Richardsville.  If you live outside these areas, please contact your local library to see if they are offering a similar program.
